It's time to read
Posted on: November 06, 2007 at 12:51 am (10 months ago)

I was just sitting here last night when it occurred to me that I have not read a single book in a really long time. Reading used to be a major past-time of mine. Of course that was before I got engrossed in the internet. As much as I enjoy being online, I want to do something else in my spare time as well. Quite frankly, I miss it. So I took it upon myself to browse around online looking for some good books and made a list of the ones that I found interesting. I am going to buy one at a time until I read them all, and I am sure that I will continue to add to my list. I currently have eight books on the list, and I have ordered one already. The one I ordered is "Go Ask Alice." I had heard about that book a long time ago and always thought it looked interesting. It should be here within a week. I can't wait to catch up on my reading!

Now I have a few questions for you all. Have you read the book? If so, what were your thoughts about it? Have you read any good books lately, or don't you like to read? If you do like to read, what are some favorites of yours?

Mh, I haven't read that one..And because of my career I have to read a lot, hehe and I love to read! The only thing is that I prefer to read in Spanish.. since what I like it's how words are expressed.. the ways of writing and sometimes the theme..

I checked with the Marina library system and both the anonymous diary and the book by Columbia University with that title are available at the library. Which one did you buy? I recently got "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" from the library and am glad I didn't pay to put another copy of it into existance. This fall I read "The Complete Stories of Isaac Asimov". It was interesting to read science fiction from so many years ago and compare it to existing science. I also read an english translation of "Njal's Saga", an Icelandic historical saga written over 700 years ago.

I've read that, I really liked it. The way she writes, like the words she uses are kind of weird to me… but then it was written ages ago…

I've wanted to read Go Ask Alice for a REALLY long time, but I never got around to getting myself to buy/rent it. Maybe now you've inspired me a little. ;)

I suppose it has been a while since I've really read - although my harry Potter obsession ensures it's not too long before I start another book :P Hope you enjoy the one you ordered :)

Man, I haven't really read anything in such a long time. I need to come up with a list too :P

I haven't read Go Ask Alice, but after reading about it, I kind of want. Well, not even kind of, but really really want to :)

I suppose my favourite books are anything written by Douglas Adams. He was such an amazing author *loves*

I love books, preferably those with philosophical touches. I haven't read that book yet, sorry. :)

I love reading as much as I love writing, but strangely enough I never seem to be able to finish a book and when I do, it has taken me at least half a year to finish it. My boyfriend got me some books for Christmas last year and I still haven't finished ONE of them. Sad, I know. Haha. So I'm sorry I can't help, but have fun reading all those books! :D

That book looks really interesting, just read it's wiki page. I'll have to see if my school libary has it!
At the moment I'm reading Ravens Gate by Athony Horowitz, its really good. I only got it a couple of days ago, and I'm already 3/4 way through it! Also, Red Tears by Joanna Kenrick is also really good - one of my fave books this year (not including HP ofcourse).
I've been trying to read more recently, and have definately found that it has increased my vocabulary and also stopped me from being bored as I often read while on the bus or in one of my boring free periods at school.
Hope you succeed in trying to read more! :D

I suggest you read "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson. It is my favorite book of all time. YOU would definitely enjoy it, too :) You should really check it out.

^ I saw the movie and liked it, so I will probably read the book as well.

Go Ask Alice was the first book I actually sat down and READ (besides books assigned @ school) I really liked it!
Another book I fell inlove with (read in less then 48 hours) was Street Pharm by Allison van Diepen. Idk, I just got so into the book I couldn't put it down. You should consider it if you like Go Ask Alice. Street Pharm also deals with a teenager getting into drugs. But this time he is the dealer. It's pretty interesting.

I read Go Ask Alice, and, tbh, I didn't like it that much. It was still pretty good though. As Brenda mentioned, Street Pharm was good, too. I liked the perspective.

I'm more inclined to reading "lighter" books that aren't focusing on drugs. My favourite would have to be This Lullaby, by Sarah Dessen. It's an amazing story and I like the writing style. I think you might enjoy it, too ;)

I've been avoiding my books to go online, too :(

I just read Palahniuk! He's the one who wrote the book 'Fight Club'. His stuff is really dark and dirty, but great writing and impossible to put down. It might make your sweet head explode, but I would recommend his novel 'Choke'.

I love reading. I've never read that book though but I've read all of Dan Brown books which I must say I like very much. Recently I've read The Runaway by Martina Cole. It's a really great book, and storyline as well. I would recommend anyone to read it.

I read Go Ask Alice in middle school. It's an okay book, I thought it was kind of sappy and cliche despite being really depressing. I'm really into Albert Camus, George Orwell, and Aldus Huxley. I REALLY recommend you read Brave New World, it's one of the best books of all time.

I love reading too but the internet definitely takes up a lot of time that could be better spent reading! You should start a book review section so we can see what you thought of each book :)

Britney - 11.06.07 @ 10:06 pm (10 months ago)

^ I already had that in mind. ;)

I LOVE THAT BOOK!! Go Ask Alice. It's so great!!! the internet definitely is evil and takes up a lot of our time. Unfortunately. Four years ago I was so completely obsessed with the internet that I had no other life. Thank God I took time off because I needed to realize there was a world outside of the internet.
