Thanks for being rude

I work in data entry. There is this old lady, Betty, who works there also. Yesterday, my supervisor asked me to help Betty key the batches in her tray. I walk over to Betty, smile at her, and take some batches out of her tray. She gives me one of the dirtiest looks I have ever seen! It pissed me off, but I continued to smile and be nice before walking back to my seat. I key the batches and take them back over. When I walk over, I realize that she took the rest of the batches that needed to be keyed out of the tray and put them in the corner of her desk so I wouldn't take any. Then she says to me, "You know there are other trays you could key." How rude! It just annoys me to think about it. I know she had to hear my supervisor telling me to help her with the batches, being that she was right beside of Betty when she said it. Of course she is old, so who knows.

Some older people are generally threatened by the new generation who can do things more faster, efficient and better. They become insecure about their jobs, and then begin to treat you that way. I've been in a work place where that kinda happened, where my ex-coworker freaked out on me because since I was helping her out with a couple of tasks, she said I was taking her job. Another previous job I was at, this one older lady tried to discredit me so she can still be the dominant one. Let me tell ya, working with women who has different personalities can be disastrous. Hope it will work out for you!
Love the new update!

First off, I love the new layout :)

Secondly, I know exactly what she feels resentment toward you. Older women don't like to be get "help" or to be under younger people, especially in jobs that don't require much education. When I worked in a restaurant, all the waitresses were past their 30s and they constantly snickered behind my back and always found SOMETHING to bitch at me about.

Basically, they are jealous, because you're already more successful than them and it bothers them.

When working with co-workers who are old and set in their ways I find you will always run into this situation. I had the same problem with a woman I work with. I'm her supervisor but I tell you it took a long while for me to find an approach to tell her what needed to be done without her taking an offense and thinking I was trying to say I'm better than her. We get along great now but it was quite a struggle at first that's for sure.

That sucks, I agree though, she probably just feels threatened by someone younger and more competent than she is. Ignore her, that sort of attitude is her problem, lol!

Some people just have no decency and make a fuss out of nothing. She probably feels threatened by your superiority in a sense. As you can do things she can't. It might make her feel inadequate thus causing her to be defensive.

I think she feels threatened. Maybe next time, just try asking nicely "may I help out" or something? Then again, sometimes it's probably best to just leave things be.

Sheesh guys, is there any chance she was just having a bad day? Maybe her dog died. Give her a break.
