I have just found out about a "new" show that The CW is launching this Fall. It's a modernized spinoff version of Beverly Hills, 90210 with a whole new cast. I was such a big fan of the old show that I don't know what to think about this upcoming one. I might end up checking it out just to see how it turns out, and the fact that I am a fan of AnnaLynne McCord helps. Jennie Garth, who played on the original show, is also supposed to appear. I definitely want to see her reprise her role as Kelly Taylor.
However, part of me thinks that because 90210 was such a classic show, it should be left alone. It's almost like an insult to the memory of 90210. Plus, we've seen these kinds of shows a million times before. What made the original show successful is that it was just that, original. In this day and age we have already seen tons of shows like it including The O.C. and North Shore (just to name a couple). This show will probably deal with the same issues we have already seen, because honestly, how many more topics are there to cover?
Then again, spinoff's can prove to be successful. Take "Angel", for example. It was a spinoff to one of my favorite shows of all time, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and it lasted five seasons before it was axed. What made it so successful, in my opinion, was the fact that it was so different. Sure it featured three characters that were previously on Buffy, but it took place in a different location, and the tone was a bit darker. It was its own show. Not a repeat. The new "90210″ takes place in the same city, at the same high school. I can't help but think of this new show as more of a repeat show than a spinoff. Of course I haven't seen it yet though so I should probably shut up while I'm ahead. It could possibly turn out to be good.

Well, I like you, have mixed feelings on the whole thing. But not really because I feel it will ruin the integrity of what BH,90210 was but because it's not only been done before, but it's been done recently before. ie: The OC, North Shore, Hidden Palms etc.
When I first heard about it I was going to not bother trying it but after watching the Preview I still think that it's like The OC… But Teen Drama is teen drama… no one gets sick of it.
I figure if Degrassi can resurrect itself and spin-off to a new generation of viewers (Degrassi: The Next Generation), then why can't 90210. It IS the American Degrassi after all.
I wonder if the high school (Torrance High) we've come to love on Buffy and the Original 90210 will be reprising it's role as West Beverly Hills High??
A spinoff gives me the impression that they're taking something from the original and creating something new. With this 90210, based on your blog stated that everything's practically the same (aside from there now being a Black person according to Best Week Ever ) then it's not really a spinoff imo. I'll probably be open to watch it but who knows. I remember they tried redoing saved by the bell I think and it failed horribly =/.
I've never watched the original, but lol @ the girl that plays Darcy from Degrassi being in it. Smh. Maybe I'll watch… just because she's in it. =D
I only know about this because Shenae Grimes, one of the Degrassi: TNG stars is going to be on it. I've seen a handful of the original episodes, but was never too involved in it. It would be cool to see Jennie Garth on it though.
I'm not sure if it'll be good or not. As you said, with all the shows just like this…they're repeats.

I never watched 90210, but it's still one of those shows everyone knows about, and spinoffs of popular shows like that are typically pretty unsuccessful. However, it's been a while since 90210 was taken off the air so you might not have quite as many loyal fans firing back about it being an insult to the original, but I'm still not so sure how it'll play out. I think the problem with spinoff shows is that they rely on the popularity of the original but fail to bring anything new to the table. Maybe given the gap in time, they'll be more careful about that and this show could work. Who knows.
I heard about this a few months ago and raised my eye brow. I use to watch the orginal back in the day, of course being you and not being ablt to understand the story lines.
I dont want this to go on. It's like producers are too lazy to think of new ideas. The same thing happened with Degrassi, new characters but the plots and storylines were all the same.
Also I really don't like how youth shows are taken on now. But I will sit down and watch an episode but I doubt I would get into it. I guess the difference with Angel it's highly more intelligent, where shows like 90210 are focused on the same issues and not so reality day to day situations.
I've heard a lot of talk about this show. I doubt I will ever get the chance to watch it. Not a huge TV person. When I watch a show it's usually online.
But it's a Rob Thomas show (think best show ever= Veronica Mars)! It's bound to be super-good, have super critics and yet have deceitful ratings… It's the Rob Thomas curse! I will watch this show before judging cause Rob Thomas is really a pro
