American Idol is now on its… umm… what season is it again? That's right, there are so many that I have lost count. It is one of the most successful and most talked about shows on television. Viewers tune in each week with their hopes and predictions of who will be the next idol. Sounds good, right? Not exactly. At least in my opinion. When season one first aired, I was immediately hooked. The auditions had me rolling on the floor, there was a nice set of talent in the top 10, and it brought us the great Kelly Clarkson. When season two aired, I was really excited. I watched the auditions which were once more entertaining. However, once the show got down to the top 12 (I don't know why they didn't just stick with 10), I wasn't as enthused. The new set of talent just didn't do it for me. They sang good, but most of them were not that great at performing. I tried watching again after that, but it was the same old thing.
I don't even bother anymore. All of the bad auditions were funny at first, but now they are just annoying. It's okay to show a few sour apples for the occasional laugh, but showcase some real talent, please! I am also sick of watching some very annoying contestants every week, such as Justin Guarini, Clay Aiken, Ruben Studdard (if you care so much about the 205 then stay there and never set foot on television again), Taylor Hicks (gray hair? puh-leez), and of course HERCULES! HERCULES! *pukes* Yeah, I can't even remember his name, but he definitely makes the list. Of course there are other annoying contestants as well, but those are my top five.
Also, how many contestants actually make it big from the show? Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have made it big, but what about everyone else? Some have gotten record deals and then were dropped from their company. So much for finding good talent…

*raises hand* I'm tired of it, as well. I also enjoyed the first season or so, but after that it just got to be ridiculous. I checked out the second episode of this season, just out of pure curiosity, and I was cringing the entire time. It's just overdone now, I think.
PS: Love this new theme! The colors are awesome together, and the little panda bear makes me giggle.
So many other shows are constantly plugging American Idol… reporting it as "news", having contestants and/or judges on as guests, etc. that I'm sick of the show and know more about it than I care to.. even though I've never even watched one entire episode.
American idol needs to end. I can only remember about two of the winners in all the seasons it has been on. Now Clay Aiken is on broadway, and that's just wrong. Hopefully this will be the last year of this madness.
I only watch AI for the auditions now and I don't watch every night or for the entire length because I can't stand all of the awful auditions. Apparently people were complaining about not having enough bad ones so they added more. Excuse me, I'd rather listen to more people with talent sing.
It seems the contestants who went country after AI are doing rather well as a group (Josh Gracin, Bucky Covington, Carrie Underwood, and that other blonde girl that I can't think of right now). Out of all the AI contestants the only one I really love is Josh Gracin and that's because he was real from the start and he's so talented. Plus he puts on an amazing, amazing live show!
I was flicking through the TV today in the UK and American Idol was on - although it was on an ad break - and it just said "American Idol 2008″ on it. I think even they've lost count of how many series they've done.
X-Factor over here is a pile of crap. Every. Single. Winner has disappeared so far.
I feel the same way, I watched the season with Clay Aiken and after that I was like pfft nope.
I really hate American Idol nowadays. The disgusting auditions really put me off. I'm sure most people do it deliberately since the Asian William guy.
I never watched the show but it definitely seems like it's going down the tubes based on the previews. I was listening to my local radio station the other morning, and they were talking about how one of the producers said that the show is going downhill because they have tapped out all of America's talent. UM… WHAT? How many people have been on AI compared to the population of this country? He was pretty stupid for admitting that, lol.
I hate American Idol. I love this layout.
I think AI is retarded and I don't take anyone seriously from it. I watch that Jessica girl from Idol who is on "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew".. she is a hot mess.
Kelly Clarkson is actually pretty alright, but I think she would have been discovered even without the show.
I only ever watched the first American Idol season and even then I didn't watch weekly, just whenever my sister flipped to the particular channel. And I only ever support Kelly Clarkson. I don't like Carrie Underwood too much and the rest is just…not my taste I suppose lol. And they HAVE disappeared -__-
I know what you mean. I seem to forget about the people in Idol very fast. Although I really like Daughtry.
We have that show here, a UK version, plus other shows which work the same way but with different names. I watched some of the first series, but I can't sit and watch 10 people sing 2 songs all in one go, it's boring after a while. I agree with what you say.
I've never been into AI. The first season I watched a few episodes and that was it. I think it's getting pretty old now and they need to quit while they're ahead (if you can even say that anymore).
Reality shows like that annoy the hell out of me. I watched a bit of the first series. Here in the uk we've had Popstars, Pop Idol, X Factor, Fame Academy, etc. The worst thing is that everyone talks about it all the time, it's enough to make a sane person go crazy ![]()
Enough of my ranting…love that devil panda in your header btw ^_^
I think they need to do something to spice it up. It's the samething every year. They need to do something to keep it fresh.
New Zealand got sick of their own version after three seasons. The first two seasons were great, but they had to resort to bribing people to audition for the third season.
There just aren't enough extremely talented people in the world to keep doing season after season.
We have Idol here in Norway too, I stopped watching it years ago. I think maybe I payed a bit attention the first season?
Carrie Underwood made it big? Hmm…I don't know any songs that she sings! I always thought the ones that did good were Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia Barrino, and Jennifer Hudson (as of late).
I've found a renewed interest in it since I haven't watched it for a few years, and let me tell you, the audtiions are still funny!
Ehh, I've never watched American Idol because I mainly suck at watching TV, but by this point I'm kind of tired of hearing about it as well. I like Kelly Clarkson but I think with those shows it's really pure luck if you end up doing as well as she ended up doing.
I never liked American Idol or any of those reality programs. It's amazing that people are only now realising what I knew back when the show started.
Yeah… I'm not too big of an idol fan as well. Heck, I didn't even watch the first season. I agree… it's getting really old, and not only that but it's normally rigged, as far as I know… but reality TV is taking over because other shows like Heroes and etc are at a standstill due to the writer's strike… I wish it will be over soon… ^_^
lol! i barely remember past ruben and clay i stopped watching after that. i haven't glanced at the audtions since then? so i have no idea what is going on. people still go on about that show…i'm like ahhhhhhhhh are you serious? wth man? anyways loving the new layout and i hope you've been a good girl. *shakes finger*
take care!
I hardly even watched the first season.
I remember Clay Aiken 'cause my best friend sang "If I Were Invisible" while we were crossing the street.
"WAIT!"
All cars stopped.
"I already ammmmm!" while we were in the middle of the streets.
I hated that song. XD
I dont follow American Idol, actually. I think theyr shouldve stopped at Kelly Clarkson
But Ive been watching the auditions everytime I catch the telecast here and I get a warm and fuzzy feeling whenever someone gets the yellow piece of paper
OMG, I know how you feel. My friend from church tried out and she has an amazing voice and you know what the judges had the nerve to say? "We're not looking for your style right now." OMG I can't believe that show! It's like okay we all know those idiots who try to sing can't, so why keep showing the auditions? Anyway, I just had to put my two cents worth in. I love your new look. It's cute. Anyway, this is Jamie who used to own Divine-Spells.org.
.
I really don't like those idols things anymore. They've become repetitive and boring, if not annoying. Especially those auditions with thousands of people who think they can sing. They clearly just want to be seen on television. I used to think those auditions were hilarious, but now they've just become annoying.
There is a reason why I don't watch it. I don't bother myself with it so I just change the channel.
hn I only watch the auditions than I completely lose interest
In the UK we've various versions of the original 'Pop Idol'. I don't really watch them. Occasionally I'll tune into the auditions but otherwise the shows don't interest me.
The only seasons I've watched are 1 and 6. Everything else just sucked balls from the beginning. I'm not even bothering with this one. Meh.
We have the awful Australian Idol. And you want to know this, every person that hasnt won Australian Idol are now big over here in the music industry. I think I only hear about one of the winners now and again (Guy Sebastian). We have Ricki Lee who was kicked out mid way of the show and she now has songs in the top 10 here, New Zealand and even in Europe. The next one would have to be Shannon Noll, but he's really only idolised by older women.
wasnt it in american and you had the asian man who couldnt sing and because people found him funny he sung she bangs she bangs and made it a single. Ugh.
The other night I had a dream I was competing on America's Next Top Model and you were one of the other girls. lol.
I only enjoy the auditions. After that, it's downhill.
Kelly will always be my TRUE American Idol. ;]
Oh BTW. How could I forget? Love the new layout.
Oh HELL yes. I know what you mean. I enjoyed all them auditions. But it's getting to the point of "OVER IT" type thing. DAYUM! So had it. I've only watched SO much of American Idol. This season & couple seasons ago I just was like "WATEVERS" So… I basically STOPPED watching. I feel ya. LOVE the layout miss.
arggh. i got tired of watching the show already. those people who doesn't really have the talent already know it's gonna be bad. . . so i guess they just needed a lot of attention.
I hate that show. I don't think it's right to have a show thats only purpose is to humiliate those who don't know how bad they are, and make people with real talent think the only way of "making it big" is this show. I think that's the worst way to promote yourself as a performer. Pop stars aren't artists. They're dolls taught to sing. That show is a clear example of the pop culture machine doing it's dirty work.
It's sad really.
I watched season 1 and season 1 only. Kelly is the only idol in my eyes. I too wish it would just end…..
I watch Australian Idol (because I live in Australia), and I know what you mean by the crappy people auditioning, and how only a few winners are successful.
But I guess that's all part of the game. Even if you win once you'll make alot of money, and then you're ready to retire.
I only watch it when there's like 5 people left and I start going for someone, but I never buy there albumn or anything.
I never really got into American Idol; I guess it's just not my thing. I sometimes see some of the funny auditions on YouTube and that's the extent of it, anything else I deem as an utter waste of time.
I was never a fan of American Idol. I tried watching it the first few seasons and just couldn't get into it. The judges annoy me & tired of the show. I seriously don't get how anyone can still be hooked on the show. Doesn't it get old?
I stopped watching American Idol completely after season 3.
Fantasia is actually doing quite well as an R&B artist. So I would say she was successful after American Idol.
I thought I was the only one who found that show to be sickening and annoying. Sometimes I take a few sneak peeks and I am amazed that some of these people actually think they have talent.
i agree! i do not like the show anymore. i love the first season because kelly clarkson really is that good. but what about the others? i think there's one season wherein the winner is called fantasia barrino… she's a winner right? but where is she now? carrie underwood, no offense, but i do not like her. maybe she's able to hit the spot but not as successful as kelly. i think jordin has a potential, i just hope that she can make it
and another season? why not let it rest simon
I've never watched that show a day in my life. The only successful ones are Carrie and Kelly. Fantasia.. she's still there. She has a new album, she had a book out once, she did a movie, and currently she's doing a play. The rest? They fell off.
You know, it's funny cause I was anticipating this season's show. And as you mentioned they do show a hell of a lot of bad singers. I would like to see more of the people that actually "made it through", "got the golden ticket". Cause now I don't even remember anyone but one girl that is going through.
I don't even like Kelly, but Carrie, OMG, beautiful, beautiful singer.
And Taylor, I think he won because of older people. My ma adores him. Seriously he can't be 29 or whatever
